Which Luxury Vinyl is Right for Your Home?
If you've been researching luxury vinyl flooring, you've almost certainly come across both Karndean and Amtico. They're the two most respected names in the category, both make exceptional products, and both are available in our showroom in Leamington Spa.
So which one is right for your home?
This is one of the questions we're asked most often, and it's a good one. There's no universal answer, but there are some clear differences worth understanding before you make a decision.
BOTH ARE PREMIUM PRODUCTS — BUT THEY'RE NOT IDENTICAL
Karndean and Amtico are often mentioned in the same breath, and understandably so. Both produce high-quality, durable, realistic luxury vinyl flooring. Both carry strong warranties and are manufactured to standards that set them apart from cheaper LVT alternatives.
The differences lie in their aesthetic approach, their product architecture, and the way they handle design and customisation.
THE KARNDEAN APPROACH: NATURAL, WARM, ACCESSIBLE
Karndean has built its reputation on producing designs that feel genuinely natural. Their wood and stone replicas are among the most realistic available, with careful attention to the grain variation, texture, and tonal range that makes natural materials feel alive.
As a Karndean Select Partner, we have one of the widest ranges of Karndean products available in the Warwickshire area. Karndean's ranges tend to suit homes where a warm, natural aesthetic is the goal: period properties, family homes, and spaces where the floor needs to feel inviting as well as practical.
THE AMTICO APPROACH: PRECISION, PATTERN, POSSIBILITY
Amtico is known for its precision. The wear layers are exceptionally consistent, the finishes are refined, and the design capabilities are genuinely impressive. Amtico offers a bespoke design service that allows for intricate borders, feature strips, and pattern combinations that simply aren't available with standard ranges.
If you're looking for a floor that makes a statement, whether through a geometric design in a hallway, a herringbone pattern in a kitchen, or a custom border in a dining room, Amtico is often the better starting point.
THE PRACTICAL DIFFERENCES
Both products are waterproof, durable, and compatible with underfloor heating. Both are available in a wide range of plank widths and tile formats. Both carry warranties that reflect their quality.
The main practical differences are in the product construction. Amtico's Spacia and Signature ranges differ in thickness and rigidity, which can affect suitability for different subfloor conditions. Karndean's ranges also vary in construction, and some are specifically designed for more demanding environments.
This is where talking to someone with genuine knowledge of both ranges makes a difference. At Priory Flooring, we've been working with both Karndean and Amtico for many years, and we can advise on which product suits your specific subfloor, your use case, and your aesthetic goals.
SO WHICH SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?
As a rough guide: if you want the warmest, most natural-looking result, start with Karndean. If you want the most refined finish or are interested in pattern and bespoke design, start with Amtico. If you're not sure, come in and see both in person. That's almost always the most useful step.
Our showroom in Leamington Spa carries both ranges in full. Our team can walk you through the differences, pull samples for the colours you're considering, and help you make a confident decision.
